City of West Palm Beach | Waterfront Commons

About This Project

The City of West Palm Beach for many years has had a vision for the redevelopment of their waterfront, with the intention of building a “world class amenity that will enhance the beauty and utility if the waterfront and create a spectacular civic space”.

This marriage of Culture, Art & Design was conceived over many years of concept development with the city’s planning department and Michael Singer Studio. Stephen Boruff AIA Architects + Planners Inc. (SBA) was engaged by CH2MHILL, (also a schematic design team member) to assist in finalizing the waterfront commons architecture. The project has now come to fruition in the form of a design/build teaming of Catalfumo Construction & Development Inc. and SBA. As Architect of Record, SBA has worked closely with the schematic design; succeeding in making the City’s vision a reality.

With an ambitious schedule and a project demanding creativity in all aspects of design, planning and construction, the team’s responsibilities included transforming the myriad of conceptual project features into real buildings, water features, gardens & civic spaces, reclaiming valuable but underused landscape & waterscape.

As a result, downtown West Palm Beach will be re-connected to the waterfront, forever changing the dynamic of the city.
