Stephen Boruff, AIA Architects + Planners, Inc. has teamed with Pointer Construction Group for the design/build of a two-story, 60 bed facility to house homeless Veterans and those suffering from substance abuse. As members of this design/build team, SBAP has developed a design from the criteria set forth by the Department of Veterans Affairs. With 30,000 square feet of space, the facility will provide treatment for up to 60 qualified veterans specifically designed towards their integration back into the community. Services provided include four primary mental health outpatient components including substance abuse, mental health, psychosocial rehabilitation recovery and psychological health. Design of the domiciliary was supported by extensive scientific research including available literature, inter-professional consultation and evidence based components that integrate high-quality recovery-oriented treatments within the primary care setting itself. The facility will create a non-institutional, home-like environment through careful attention to external and internal architectural features and interior design elements.
