Stephen Boruff, AIA Architects + Planners, Inc. was contracted to design this 35 Bed Assisted Living and 25 Bed Memory Care Facility. Originally conceived as an expansion to the adjacent Royal Palm Convalescent Center, the new design is an ambitious 3 story addition to an existing office building. The Assisted Living component consists of 2 “households” of 17 and 18 rooms on the upper floors, while the existing office building is repurposed as the Memory Care portion of the facility. With a focus on a homelike environment, the facility is designed to generate social activity on the ground level, providing multiple amenities and activity spaces.
The assisted living units are designed as both suites and studios, and are organized around a hub of living spaces, including a small kitchen. While a secure environment is certainly a priority in a Memory Care unit, the same attention to creating a homelike atmosphere will be carried throughout that portion of the facility as well.
Great attention was also given to the organization of this facility during the planning stages. This integral approach to design allows us to realize a design that is both functional and attractive, maximizing staff efficiency and the comfort of the residents.
