Palm Beach State College commissioned Stephen Boruff, AIA Architects + Planners, Inc. to provide full architectural services for a 147,000 square foot, $33 million, Public Safety Training Center on the Lake Worth Campus. The project integrates Fire Science, Criminal Justice, EMT and Paramedic Academies into one comprehensive complex.
The Fire Academy’s Training Tower is a prominent feature of the training facility providing a variety of interior and exterior conditions, simulating an unlimited number of true to life scenarios. The Criminal Justice’s 300’x600’ Driving Course contains a “wet” skid pad, allowing the students to experience any number of driving events including pursuit scenarios, maneuvering, rain conditions; all in preparation for their professional duties. The facility also includes a 3-story Burn Building, an Observation Platform, a Prop Field including LP Gas Props, a Vehicle Extrication simulation area and several emergency response scenario drill areas.
