Stephen L. Boruff, AIA, Architects + Planners, Inc. provided professional architectural services for two (2), pre-engineered metal, single-story aircraft hangers of approximately 118,060 square feet, including 49,500 square feet of three-story shelled space located at the Opa Locka Airport in Opa Locka, Florida. Developed by Turnberry Associates, the hangers were constructed under a design-build project delivery system based on design documents generated by Zyscovich Architects. The Fixed Base Operations facility features hanger space for aircraft up to a Gulfstream V, along with support spaces including passenger lounge, conference room, pilot lounge, quiet lounges, flight planning office, line service office and food vending space. A covered airside “wing” provides space for aircraft to load and unload passengers under inclement weather conditions. The buildings were designed in accordance with NFPA 409 and regulations governed by the Federal Aviation Authority.
